The Old Woman and the Pig

There was an old woman who was sweeping her room, and she found a sixpence; she thought she would go to market and buy a pig. So she set off to market and bought a pig, and on the way home they came to a stile, but the pig refused to get over the stile, and the old woman cried -

Pig won't go,
pig won't go,
I see by the moonlight
'tis a very fine night,
And I should have been home
An hour and a half ago.

So she went a little further and she met a dog, and she said, Good dog, bite pig.

Pig won't go, pig won't go, etc,
But the dog refused to bite the pig, so she went a little further and she met a stick, and she said, Good stick, beat dog, dog won't bite pig.
Pig won't go, pig won't go, etc,

But the stick refused beat the dog, and she went a litle further and she met a fire, and she said to it, Good fire, burn stick, etc.

But the fire wouldn't burn the stick, and she went a little further till she met some water, and she said, Good water, quench fire, etc.

But the water refused to quench the fire, so she went a little further and she met an ox, and she said, Good ox, drink water, etc.

But the ox wouldn't drink the water, so she went a little further and she met a butcher, and she said to him, Good butcher, kill ox, etc.

But the butcher refused to kill the ox, and she went a little further till she met a rope, and she said to the rope, Good rope, hang butcher, etc.

But the rope refused to hang the butcher, and she went a little further and she met a rat, and she said to it, Good rat, gnaw rope, etc.

But the rat refused to gnaw the rope, and she went a little further till she met a cat, and she said to the cat, Good cat, kill rat; rat won't gnaw rope, rope won't hang butcher, butcher won't kill ox, ox won't drink water, water won't quench fire, fire won't burn stick, stick won't beat dog, dog won't bite pig.

Pig won't go, pig won't go, etc,
So the cat began to kill the rat,
The rat began to gnaw the rope,
The rope began to kill the butcher,
The butcher began to kill the ox,
The ox began to drink the water,
The water began to quench the fire,
The fire began to burn the stick,
The stick began to beat the dog,
